Tammie started Rock the Lock back in 2008 (?) as a community run. She gathered friends and clients (she’s a personal trainer) and bussed us out (there was a friend who had a bus) to Chaffey’s Lock and “made” us run back. We would end together at the parking lot where the Cataraqui Trail meets Perth Road. We’d share a few stories and snacks. Eventually, for many different reasons, this wee event fizzled out.
When we were putting together an event schedule for 2023, she had the idea of bringing it back as “real event”. So we added it to the schedule, hoping we’d get enough interest. This is “our” section of the trail, the one we run and bike on, the one our kids learned to ride and walk longer distances on. We wanted to share it with others.
While we didn’t have a “sell out” event, we had 20 registered runners, and 15 that made it to the start line. We decided we were going ahead as planned, even with a small group.
Well….this small group did not disappoint! With an age range of 22 to 69, and finish times ranging from 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 43 minutes, every racer got cheered as they crossed the finish line.
We heard from more than one of our racers that this was the prettiest 20km run ever.
We will most definitely have this run on next years roster, whether we have 20 or 50 runners join us!
